Hello, and welcome to The Perna Syndicate! Yesterday, we talked about forming good habits—and breaking bad ones. You have to say no to one thing, so you can say yes to another.
Near the end of last year, I finally said no to something. I said no to the unhealthy physical and mental habits that have contributed to the extra weight I’ve carried all my life.
My weight has always been a struggle. In every other area of my life, I’ve been able to focus, plan, and take action to reach my goals and continually set new ones. But somehow, my health always took a back seat.
I was focused on everything and everyone else and never put time into myself—and I knew that needed to change. It’s like when you board a plane and they give you the talk about the oxygen mask. You need to put the mask on yourself first, and then help your neighbor. My problem was that I never put the mask on myself.
I finally said no to these old habits because I had had enough. I was tired of being overweight, tired of adapting my surrounding to fit me, instead of adapting my health and wellbeing to fit my surroundings.
Saying no to these old habits means I can say yes to new ones, like nutrition, hydration, motion, sleep, and just overall wellbeing. Finally, I can say yes to all the things I never could before. And the journey is just beginning.
