In a multigenerational workplace, how do you know if your company’s onboarding experience is working? Find out, coming up next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 215 show:

You are now in The Perna Syndicate—welcome! Our unique, four-generational workforce presents a challenge for organizations trying to create a compelling onboarding experience.

Ranging from Boomers to Gen-Z, each generation brings a unique perspective to the workplace—including what’s important to them in an employer, how they receive communications, and how they consume information.

Listening to your employees is the best place to start. One size never fits all, and even within a generation there can be significant variety in how employees engage with a company.

The goal is to encourage new hires to engage with the onboarding experience in a meaningful way—going beyond simply consuming the information to actually interacting, asking questions, creating a dialogue, and reaching out. When this happens, you know that your onboarding experience is working.

The more that new hires are actively participating by speaking up and asking questions, the more they will retain—and the more they will engage. This is especially critical in a virtual or hybrid work environment.

Finally, it’s helpful to measure how people engage with your onboarding experience and never stop improving your approach. Over time, doing this will make your company more employee-centric, effective, and data-driven.
