Episode Title: One Thing That Will Cripple Your Career
Are you doing just enough to get by at work? You might be drifting into stagnation. Let’s talk about it, coming up next on The Perna Syndicate.
Ep 350 show:
Hello and happy Friday on The Perna Syndicate! This week as we wrap up our discussion of social agility, I want to talk about its opposite: stagnation.
Stagnation means standing still, living your life in static purpose mode. You’re not growing or advancing; you’re simply standing still. Doing just enough to get by but never enough to get ahead. You’re comfortable right where you are.
I say it often: growth rarely, if ever, happens when we’re in our comfort zone. It’s when we step out of that zone that we can grow and change and become the best version of ourselves.
Of course, getting out of our comfort zone can be, well, uncomfortable. But in today’s workplace, stagnation is the one thing that will cripple your career. Things are changing so fast, the people who choose to stand still will be left behind.
Don’t allow yourself to get stuck in a rut, doing the same thing over and over and hoping for a different result. Instead of living in static purpose mode, make the switch to active purpose.
Active purpose is where you make a daily habit of doing things that stretch you. You plan for the future, rather than just letting it happen to you. And you’re always taking steps outside your comfort zone. Maybe they’re little steps, but steps nonetheless.
Active purpose is how you beat stagnation—and start building social agility in the new era of work.
Thanks for being part of The Perna Syndicate this week! Coming up next week, we’ll be talking about why the Great Resignation can be a positive opportunity for companies to improve their connection with the workforce. Until then, take care!
