Episode Title: Don’t Figure Out Life at College

Is college the best time and place to figure out what you want from life? I’m here to tell you, absolutely not. Here’s why, next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 442 show:

Hello and welcome to The Perna Syndicate! Today I’m continuing my open letter to high school students. If I could speak to every single one of you, this is what I’d share.

Listen: you don’t have to wait until college to figure out what you want to do with your life. In fact, you shouldn’t. You are not too young to start discovering your career passion and direction now. (People instinctively know this; do you ever get tired of being asked what you want to be when you grow up?)

But so many of you are waiting until that first semester of college to start exploring your career options. I hate to break it to you, but college is more expensive than ever. In fact, most people who went to college say that their student loans are their biggest regret. Their debt is crushing their dreams. But that doesn’t have to be you.

I’m a big fan of what I call Education with Purpose, which simply means you start exploring your career direction in high school or even before that. If you figure out where you’re going sooner rather than later, you can make a smarter investment in your further education. You know what you want and you know how to get there. You’ve already got a plan, simple as that.

So how do you get an education that has actual, meaningful purpose for your real life? Well, start now. Find out what kind of career programs your high school offers, and give it a try. Who knows what you’ll learn about yourself along the way?

Don’t wait for college to figure out what you want from life. You can start right now.

Tomorrow: with all its debt and drama, is college just a terrible option all around? Tune into the next episode of The Perna Syndicate to find out. See you then!
