Episode Title: Wings Not Rules
Gen Z is ready to make a difference in the world—and we can help them. I’ve got one simple phrase to make that easier, next on The Perna Syndicate.
Ep 480 show:
Thanks for tuning in to The Perna Syndicate today! All week, we’ve been talking about some common misconceptions about the Millennials and Gen Z. Together, they make up the largest cohort in the workplace, and their influence is only going to grow.
But are they thriving in their career journey? Are they getting the answers to their all-important question “Why?” Or are we just giving them a bunch of rules?
These talented youngsters have benefited from the highest level of education our nation has yet seen. They’ve been educated, taught to believe in themselves, and given all the tools and technology to troubleshoot, streamline the process, and problem-solve. But then they enter the workforce—and everything changes.
All of the sudden, they’re expected to fit the mold instead of reinventing it. They’ve been told they can change the world—but not to question company policy. And all this is crippling the fresh perspective they can bring.
How can we change all this? One phrase: wings, not rules.
If we want young people to deliver everything they’re capable of, we’ve got to let them. Instead of telling them what they can and cannot do, what if we empowered them to make real decisions, to take on that extra responsibility, to live up to their full potential? What if we gave them wings instead of rules?
When they spread their wings, they will go places we’ve never imagined. Let’s help them launch that future, now.
Thanks for making this show a part of your day. Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you back here next time on The Perna Syndicate. Take care!
