Episode Title: Maybe You Need A Break

Is it time for you to take a career break? Here are some questions to ask yourself before you do, coming up next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 520 show:

Welcome to The Perna Syndicate! With all this talk of career breaks and employment gaps this week, you might be feeling left out if you don’t have one.

In the past, most people have taken career breaks because they didn’t have a choice in the matter. Maybe they got laid off and it took some time to land another job, maybe they had to exit the workforce for awhile to take care of family, maybe there were health issues or some other reason that was beyond their control.

Now, all that’s different. You can take a career break because you want to, not because you have to.

Do you need a break? While I think we’d all enjoy some extended time off, you have to check your boxes before you hand in your resignation. First, of course, can you swing it financially? Obviously you’ve got to cover those bases.

But second, do you have a plan to make the most of that time away? Are you going to return to the workforce with new energy, skills, and motivation? What do you need that time for? Who do you want to become as a result of taking a break from the everyday grind?

If you decide it’s time for a career break, good for you. But like anything else in life, don’t do it without a clear purpose. Take this time away for a reason that matters, both for your present and your future. A career break can be an amazing investment if you do it wisely and purposefully.

That’s all for this week! Thanks for tuning in and making The Perna Syndicate a part of your day. I’m your host, Mark Perna, and we’ll see you back here next week for more on The Perna Syndicate. Until then, take care!
