Episode Title: The Blue-Collar Secret

No one is more entrepreneurial than Gen Z, but are they missing a big opportunity to start a business in the trades? Let’s talk about it, next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 562 show:

You’re now in The Perna Syndicate—hello and welcome! According to Jobber’s Home Service Economic Report, the demand for skilled-trade jobs is far outpacing the supply of qualified workers to fill them.

This creates a huge opportunity for entrepreneurs to come in and fill those labor gaps. And no one is more entrepreneurial than the up-and-coming Generation Z.

The problem is, a majority of young people don’t know about the many rewarding blue-collar careers available today in these growing industries. And if they do know, they probably aren’t getting the full picture.

In another recent poll by Jobber, only 20% of millennials said they were advised to pursue vocational school and only 9% of Gen Z were encouraged to start their own businesses. Half of Gen Z believed that entrepreneurs with university degrees are more likely to be successful, while only 28% of Baby Boomers believed this to be true.

Despite the many exciting and lucrative pathways in the trades, a lot of young people won’t even think about these fields unless the idea is suggested to them. It’s like blue-collar work is a well-kept secret.

But, it’s starting to leak out. And the sooner, the better.

Tomorrow: Gen Z entrepreneurs who choose the trades have one significant advantage over their older counterparts. We’ll talk about what that advantage is on the next episode of The Perna Syndicate. See you then!
