Episode Title: A Resume That Rocks

A knockout resume is never more vital than during a recession. Here’s how first-time jobseekers can create a resume that rocks—next on The Perna Syndicate.

Ep 589 show:

This is The Perna Syndicate—and I’m glad you’re here! No matter what the economy is like, it’s essential to get your resume right. It goes without saying that you have to catch typos and other errors before it ever leaves your outbox. But what else can you do to make sure it stands out?

I get it—creating a compelling resume can be daunting, especially for first-time job seekers who may not have a lot of previous experiences to highlight. But everyone has to start somewhere, and even the most successful, influential person you can think of started off with no experience at first.

The secret of a powerful resume is to look creatively at your hobbies, summer jobs, extracurricular involvement, and other seemingly unrelated experiences that you’ve had. Did it contribute to who you are today? Maybe it can help you land that job tomorrow.

It’s all in how you frame these experiences. Was it a babysitting gig, or an opportunity to connect with individuals younger than yourself in a trusted role where you helped resolve conflict, provided a feeling of safety, and met their physical and emotional needs?

Was it just marching band, or was it a powerful collaboration, working in close partnership with other skilled musicians to produce a high-quality musical experience for the audience?

Think it through—even if you’ve never had a “real” job before, you still have a lot to offer. And your resume can rock it.

Tomorrow: So the economy is tough but you just landed a great job. How can you make the most of it? Tune in on the next episode of The Perna Syndicate for more!
