Episode Title: Running Toward Something Meaningful

In life, we’re all running. The question is, are we running toward something meaningful—or just running away? Coming up next on The Perna Syndicate, we’ll talk about why this makes such a difference.

Ep 94 show:

Hello and welcome—I’m your host, Mark Perna. As a career and performance expert, I talk a lot about young people finding their direction in life. But I’ve come to realize that simply finding your direction isn’t the full picture. The reason we choose a certain direction is just as important as the direction itself—if not more so. Let me explain.

One of my mantras goes like this: Run toward something meaningful in your life…because running away never led anywhere special. If I could give young people one word of advice, this might be it.

Don’t just run away from something negative in your life. Set your sights on something positive, something meaningful—and start running toward it. Otherwise, the thing you’re running away from is still ruling your life. It’s still dictating your direction.

Here are three questions to determine not just where you’re running, but why.

Number 1: Do I want to reach my goal for its own sake—or is escape my only goal? Number 2: Do I have a clear picture of where I want to go—or is it just anywhere but here? Finally, number 3: Will my direction make a positive difference for others—or just for myself?

Life is a journey, and we’re all headed somewhere. So run toward something meaningful in your life…because running away never led anywhere special.
