It’s our last #careerconvos article, and I hope you’ve had some enjoyable and productive conversations with your child that will kickstart their passion for a great career. Today, I want to talk about the next step after high school graduation.
If you immediately thought “college,” you’re not wrong—but you may also be missing the rest of the answer. Postsecondary education can be anything beyond high school—apprenticeship, specialized industry training, or, yes, college. It all depends on what your child’s career aspirations require.
College can be a great option if that’s what your child’s chosen career requires, but if they go to college without clear purpose—just for the sake of going—it can be a serious waste of time and money. The goal in this convo is to discuss how important it is to go on to postsecondary training or college with purpose.
You want to start your child on the path to invest wisely in higher education, get it done, and get going in a great career. Adapt these questions to your conversations:
